Meditation on 139

An ancient craft, carpentry
it connects crafters through the ages
the same motions done now
done countless times before
to shape and reshape the work and carpenter
through repetition, meditation
Thirty three strokes of sandpaper
in one Lord’s Prayer
forty wipes of oil
in one confession
How many Psalms recited in one piece of wood?
Almost enough to believe she is marvelously made
How many prayers in one boat?
More than the sand on the beach on which it lands
The Master Carpenter shapes the carpenter
and opens her to the wisdom of ages
so she may be searched and known
and her own work perfected
