Our Lady of Guadalupe and St. Luke’s are hosting a free concert. The lyrical beauty of the music in this bilingual concert spans from Chile and Brazil to Bach, from the elegance of Baroque suites and sonatas, to the colorful and exciting rhythms of Latin American sambas, choros, and tangos. The concert features the music of Chilean composer and guitarist Alberto Cumplido and classical guitarist Hilary Field. This concert is sponsored by the Seattle Classical guitar Society. All are welcome, and the concert is free.
Growing up in Chile, guitarist Alberto Cumplido studied composition, musical performance, classical guitar, jazz, literature and poetry in his home country and abroad. While living in Germany, he collaborated with composers Gustavo Becerra and Olaf Jansen, creating an engaging hybrid of modern classical music and jazz. An adventurous musician, Cumplido has experimented with electronic music, and has composed for dance, film, and theater. He has also explored the intersection of music and the spoken word. Cumplido has appeared on 5 CDs, as both an interpreter of other people’s music and a composer for different chamber ensembles.
In 2000, his CD Timeless was nominated for an Altazor award. Cumplido is also director and creator of the Festival Entrecuerdas. Between 2013 and 2014 he gave concerts and master classes in Brazil, Mexico, Canada, Paraguay, Uruguay, Argentina, Peru and the USA. He has performed in international competitions in Rio de Janeiro, Montevideo, and Colima (in Mexico). albertocumplido.blogspot.com
