We make fun of Episcopalians for their blandness, their excessive calm, their fear of giving offense… Episcopalians believe in prayer, but would practically die if asked to pray out loud … [and] believe that it is okay to poke fun at themselves and never take themselves too seriously.“
In the spirit of Pentecost, I invite you to participate in speaking in tongues without “fear of giving offense” by creating a collective exhibit of our individual spirits for a special coffee hour on Pentecost.
This Coffee Hour will let you share how you speak in tongues or connect with the Spirit. We experience a common liturgy, but we come from wildly different spiritual places. Teach us what tongue you speak so we might all understand each other and be understood more fully. Most importantly, have fun!
If you have an item or three to share, turn it in to Jennifer Harold or Linda Calbom before June 4 so we can set up exhibits ahead of time—unless it’s food (just let us know what you’ll bring) or a musical recording (send us the recording/info so we can create a playlist). Make sure all your items have your name attached so we can return them. If you are not sure how to represent your spiritual expression, talk to each other or one of us. No matter what it is, there is a way to share it!
