Church In The Time of COVID-19

March 25, 2020

Though our church chairs sit empty, St. Luke Church staff have been rapidly rethinking and transforming the way we engage as a church community. While services have ceased, the church is alive and well. Here are a few things we have put into place:

We’re In This Together Teams (WITT)

So far we have grouped parish into 13 WITT-Teams of 5–6 households. Each team has a leader with whom we ask they check in twice per week (on Thursdays and Mondays). Leaders will share a synopsis with WITT Coordinator, Lin Cashman, who will gather what is shared and send it to us in the parish office. This will allow our pastoral staff to know how we may be able to respond to the needs of the whole parish and provide a way for us to share the resources, skills, and gifts each of us has to offer one another.

Live-Streaming Liturgies

The amazing Josh deLacy has been at work all week developing our ability to stream a liturgy attended only by parish staff that you may watch on Sunday morning at 10:30 a.m. (and afterward on our website). We are assembling the technology and equipment we need to produce quality live-stream productions. There will be some up-front costs to this with long-time benefits. See the “Wish List” article for how you can help with this.

Who’s Zooming Who?

We will soon be using  Zoom technology to conduct meetings and classes and other ways multiple people may gather and still be in their own places. Our Lenten class will move to a Zoom format starting this Wednesday at 12 noon and 6:45 PM. (Don’t worry, you’ll get the hang of it!). To join the class:

  1. Download and install Zoom on your computer, tablet, or phone (free);
  2. Join St. Luke’s Zoom meeting by using our room code (930-396-6922) in the Zoom app, by following this link, or by pasting https://zoom.us/j/9303966922 into your Internet browser.

Please keep one another in your prayers, stay safe, and hold open your minds with me about the gift of community and the way our consciousnesses will grow during these transformational times.
