Music

Music is a medium that moves our hearts, minds, and bodies into the mystery of life. Our music in hymnody, chant, and song is highly participatory and led with the highest quality of musicianship.

Mel Butler

He served four years in the US Navy as violist in the Navy String Quartet, and after serving in several musical capacities for twenty years in Rochester, he became Canon Musician at Saint Mark’s Cathedral from 1992 until his retirement in 2014.

Choir and Instrumentalists

St. Luke Church Choir sings weekly anthems and supports our congregational singing. The choir rehearses at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday mornings (except for the second Sunday of each month) in preparation for the 10:30 a.m. liturgy. The choir is open to all who love to sing and want to be part of the positive spirit of music-making.

Do you play an instrument? We welcome the gifts of all people and would love to incorporate your music excellence into our worship life.

St. Luke Church’s seasonal liturgies are celebrated on the solstices and equinoxes through the year. Through music and poetry, ritual and movement, we acknowledge the beauty of the natural world and the interweave of the seasons with our own spiritual lives.
